Did it piss you off that J.J. Abrams removed a lot of the philosophical themes and Star Trek and turned it into a big action franchise? I'm not even much of a Star Trek fan but it sure did piss me off.
I think the latest film actually does live up to the Star Trek tradition of challenging the status quo, since it’s attitude towards terrorism is that we should not seek vengeance. We should not react with anger and fear and lose all sense of who we are. That’s a message that America really needs to hear, and most big summer blockbusters deliver the exact opposite. Also, I was really happy to see male characters displaying emotions other than anger. Even the villain sheds a tear. This isn’t presented as unmanly. And let’s not forget that, even if it is an action movie, it’s an action movie where the actor playing the hero in the final epic battle is openly gay. So, I think they did Roddenberry proud.

Bullshit. Her waist is smaller, her Scottish facial features have been smoothed away, her hair has been defrizzed, she’s been put in a dress that she would fucking despise. They turned her into a fucking Barbie doll. That’s not what that character is about.

I was on the side of the feminists on that one. That “new Merida” was a fucking travesty.
