Are you beginning to dislike the New Atheist movement?
I’ve cared very little for it for a long time now. I don’t actively oppose it, but it’s not for me. It honestly has become too rigid, dogmatic and uptight for my tastes. Hitch carved a niche for my kind of people in the movement—loud, boisterous contrarians. Since his death, it seems like the mainstream, conference-attending atheists have pushed out the neckbeards and the assholes. They don’t view us as any great loss. To them, we’re scumbags—we belong on the fringes, in their opinion.
I don’t want you to think I have a persecution complex here though. I’m perfectly fine with not being a part of their movement. I don’t agree with them ideologically anyway. The alliance between academia and the autodidact troglodytes was a marriage made in hell. It was never meant to last.
